Popping the catch on the black fabric holster which secured her handgun in place Raven pulled the weapon and spot checked the safety was still in the secure position. Her mind was on auto pilot for a moment as she pressed the mag release and checked the ammunition for about the tenth time since leaving, her hand shoved the clip back in place, hearing the click as it secured once more. Finally Raven pulled on the slider, locking her first round in place. The smell of gun oil emanated from the chamber as the round slid into place, the thoughts it invoked caught her off guard, images of being dropped off to the Colonel on the day her parents "disappeared." He had been sitting in his office cleaning his Baretta, his taste for lousy Italien guns always confused her, far less reliable than her Austrian Glock.
Switching her attention to the map Raven memorised quickly the path Chris had picked out, her eyes wandered over the route, trying to envisage the potential defendable positions. Scouting the street ahead of them Raven tried to remain rational while in her head she noted the vast open expanses with virtually no cover except for abandoned cars and the buildings themselves, probably full of rotten floorboarding and about as safe as staying in the open. Securing the pack on her back Raven signalled she was ready to go.

After Chris made sure that his partners had a memory of the map, were properly armed and ready to go, he led them down the street towards the place Claire was staying. The street was quiet. Houses falling apart, windows broken, doors off their hinges, siding and eaves falling off. Chris got an uneasy feeling in his stomach as he knew what had happened here, and the worry for what have might happened to Claire.
Walking up to the building, a shadow appeared in the doorway. Something was moving rough and crude at the other side of the doorframe in the shadows. Chris signaled his crew to stay at attention at this way, while he covered their backs towards the street.
