"alternatives to what i have been taught" he said "i haven't been taught anything Raven, I have no memory of who or what I am and i don't even know where I am now..." he said to her. He was living on instinct, and instinct alone.
"But I do not fully understand, you tell me i don't have to destroy, but you just did what i did to that man, but to that napkin" He pointed out to her and then asked, "Whats the difference?" he wasn't angry, he was just curious as to how this world worked.

"The difference is that this napkin has no family, it isnt sentient nor does it feel pain" Thinking about it from his perspective she reasoned "If you were to cut me, I bleed, I cry and I ask you to stop, if you would not stop I would try to run, an animal would bleed and cry and would try to run. Destruction of that which is living for no purpose other than to watch it bleed or to see it die is not acceptable to our society. We eat animals but kill them as humanely as possible, a quick and painless death is preferable but still not warranted for humans." She couldn't tell if her words meant anything to him, he seemed to be paying attention and genuinely wanted to learn but...he still had the capacity to reach across the table and rip out her spine if he chose. Much like putting your head into the lions mouth to prove it was tame is a stupid idea and will get you bitten, she did not care to under-estimate him.

Nagrom watched her for a moment or so, he had been listening, but something kept echoing through his mind, he could barely hold it in so calmly he said, "How do you know that the napkin cant feel pain..." here's where things would begin to get confusing, "I understand that pain creates a reaction, that there is a response. But, what if you don't know what that response is, and because you cant see it or hear it, you say it dose not respond, and there for dose not feel pain".
What he had said was not really a question, it was more of a contemplation he said out loud. "The same could be said in reverse, If a being so complex and advanced was to encounter a lesser being in terms of advancement or power, would it be able to tell that creature felt pain, or more to the point why would it care, why do humans care if they hurt things".

"Humans care if they hurt things because thats what makes us different from animals." She regarded him for a long while after, he had a point, we had no way of determining if anything we did caused harm unless we recognised the reaction. Deciding she had no space for guilt which may or may not be justified she set the conversation aside in her head.
The food came, giving her a welcome distraction, taking up her fork she dug through the veggies and rice, toying with her food before eating it. "What will you do, when you leave here?" She thought maybe her concern for him was a little mis-placed given he could clearly take care of himself but she worried nonetheless.

He had managed to cut himself a few pieces of steak before she asked the question, his teeth cutting through the meat like it was nothing at all. He looked up at her and then said "What do you mean?" he continued eating for a moment before saying, "what would I do if i left here" he asked.
He continued eating tearing through the meat and practically swallowing the veg whole, Feeding like a true demon, within a matter of minuets the plate was clean apart from the few remaining scraps he care not to consume.

Pulling out a bill from the fold in her pocket she laid it on the table for the tab, returning to refill her lemonade once more. Watching him consume the meal in a matter of minutes was slightly disturbing, Raven sat unsure whether he was really really hungry or just ill mannered, not that it really mattered. Pushing her plate to one side she sipped on her drink, pondering her predicament, she had fed the stray, was he likely to follow her home?. Everything about him screamed child, except for his reasoning and bloody mutilation of the corpse from the alley.
Finally she responded "I mean, when you're done eating and I go home, what will you do? where will you go? do you have anywhere to stay?" Waiting for his response she began to play subconsciously with the pendant around her neck, her fingernails tugging at the catches on the silver orb, opening and closing the pendant over and over.

Nagrom looked at her and then the person serving them, he waited for them to go before looking back to Raven, "I don't know, do you think I should leave this town?" He asked seeking some advice.
"I could go back to the orphanage and gather my things, then start traveling..." he said pondering over his options. He was still a child, but unlike children, he wasn't completely useless, He could feed himself and survive on his own. He could leave the town and begin a journey to find out more about the world, Nagrom was about to undergo a change and that could make the traveling a lot easier.

"You must do what you think is right, but I hear the orphanage can be hard" Raven played with an errant lock of hair, curling it over and over her finger. "If you think you should travel and learn then I wouldnt dissuade you, but you need to be careful" Standing she motioned for him to follow her to a place where she could return the weapon to him without causing a stir, handing a blade to an obvious demon would do more than raise eyebrows in this town.
Slipping quietly into an alley behind the eatery she turned to face him once more. "I would like to ask, if I give this back to you, that you use it with discretion, you think before you act and that you be careful, most of all, I ask that you remember that a human was kind to you once." Passing the dagger from its resting place, she held it out to him.

Nagrom followed her, the idea of leaving the orphanage was seeming better all the time, he followed her out of the eatery ignoring the strange looks and walked with her into the ally. He looked at her as she spoke and slowly put his hand out to take the dagger from her.
His hand gently brushed hers, and amongst the cold of the night his skin felt like it was on fire, he would have no worry about catching pneumonia or anything humans would face. He looked at the blade the runes in the handle almost lit up, like the blade knew it was reunited with its owner, Nagrom put the blade in its sheath that was concealed in his pocket.
Nagrom looked to Raven and said softly, "You have made an impact on me tonight, I will try to think like a human when I act, I may not be able to deny my demonic heritage, but I do have free will" he smiled at her "Raven, I don't know how valuable the word of a Demon is to you, but I promise you, I will not forget you, nor what you have done for me" He then said "Before we go our separate ways I want to say, truthfully and with meaning. Take care of yourself Raven"
Nagrom turned, knowing what he needed to do now, knowing what he needed to accomplish, as he walked away he spoke again, just before he was one with the shadows of the night, just one last message that he didn't know if she could hear, "Until next time Raven..." and with that, as quickly as he had met her, he was gone.
